Welcoming Share Community students to our kitchen
At the end of last year we were delighted to begin working with our brilliant neighbours, Share Community - a local charity that provides education and support to adult students with SEN and autism, including training in catering and hospitality. You can learn more about their fantastic work here: https://www.sharecommunity.org.uk/
We kicked things off with a visit from Chef Heidi, who spent a day in one of their training kitchens running a hands-on pizza-making workshop. It was a great introduction and a chance to get to know the students - and their enthusiasm for food!
More recently we welcomed students Paula and Zain to our Battersea kitchen for a four-day work experience placement. Over the week they experienced the pace and teamwork of a professional catering kitchen, working alongside chefs Heidi, Chris and Ryan.
Zain and Paula making some delicious scones!
They got stuck into a variety of tasks, from making scones and leek & potato soup with Head Chef Heidi, to baking cupcakes, brownies and cookies with Pastry Chef Chris. On the final day, Zain joined Sous Chef Ryan on general food preparation, supporting the team during service prep and getting a real feel for how a working kitchen runs.
Zain said: ”I really enjoyed it. The food was great and the staff were nice. I liked doing different things and would love to come back one day.”
We loved having Zain and Paula in the kitchen and are incredibly proud to be working alongside Share Community. We look forward to continuing this partnership - supporting their students while also learning a lot ourselves along the way.
A special thanks as well to Phoebe from Share, who joined them in the kitchen to support the placement and help make the week run so smoothly.
