Wedding trends and standout highlights from 2023

Our very own weddings guru Sophie Redgrave, shares some of her standout themes and moments from a year of amazing weddings.

No.1 – Whatever the weather, we’re having our wedding outdoors!

We saw a number of weddings this in 2023 that have utilised raj tent, tipis or canvas tents allowing an open feel between the outside and inside making most of the scenic views and sunny spells that we had throughout the summer months! And the dressings have been both very formal or fun casual, showing just how versatile an outdoor structure can be.

No.2 – Pops of bold colour

From a multi-coloured festival wedding, pops of cobalt blue or an entirely white wedding contrast with bright florals inspired by the groom’s Nigerian heritage we have really seen colour taking a front seat at our weddings! It’s been a wonderful opportunity for the couple’s personality to shine through in the celebrations while creating some really striking beautiful looks!

No.3 – Alternative cakes!

We have seen some really fun and different cake options which have stepped away from the traditional wedding cake! These have created delicious options for guests to get stuck into that can also be a little more fun and interactive! Some options we have seen have included brownie towers, chocolate tiffin cake and even smaller cakes incorporated into gourmet cheese tables!

No.4 – Bespoke cocktails and menus

At Jimmy’s we take great pride in taking personal elements from our wedding couples to really tailor dishes and drinks for the menu on their special day. This is something that has been really big this year, whether creating a menu around the bride’s Cypriot heritage, an all vegan Parisian themed wedding, bespoke his and her cocktails and fun mocktails (including one served with candyfloss garnish!)

No.5 – Statement bars & Interactive guest dining

We have very much seen bars become the focal point within wedding design. They draw the eye, create a little drama, and set the scene for the fun celebrations, whether it’s made from reclaimed pallets or is a high gloss pure white backlit structure adorned with floral displays. Another trend has seen people getting involved, whether that’s with some live cooking on our circular Ofyr barbecue, at a DIY Bloody Mary bar or, (my personal highlight of the year) around a Rosé wine fountain!

Whether it’s a unique venue of London, a marquee wedding or an intimate celebration in your favourite place, we offer only the finest catering for your big day and so much more.  With a wealth of knowledge and experience, we can ensure you have the most incredible, seamless day from start to finish.  Life’s events taste better with our food.
