A Playful Food Experience Inspired by Mini Golf
For The Art of Mini Golf Showcase at Battersea Arts Centre, we created a playful canapé and handheld menu designed to bring the theme of the event into the food itself.
Serving 150 guests, the menu combined imaginative dishes with interactive presentation, turning familiar mini-golf elements into edible experiences.
Canapes with a Twist
The canapé menu was built around playful names and presentation inspired by the course:
‘Square Peg, Round Hole’ – carbonara arancini with guanciale, parmesan and black pepper emulsion, served on golf tees over astroturf-covered canapé trays.
‘Swamp Flower’ – pea and courgette flower tartlet with La Latteria stracciatella and lemon oil.
‘Birdie’ – chicken and pancetta lollipop with wild garlic emulsion, presented in a ‘bunker’ of pangrattato sand.
‘Water Hazard, Drop Shot’ – cucumber and dill velouté with olive crumb, served as a shot.
From the Course to the Canape Tray
Presentation was a key part of the experience, with the food designed to feel like an extension of the mini-golf course.
Canapés were served using astroturf, golf tees and pangrattato ‘sand’, while the handhelds continued the playful visual theme. The ‘Wave of Fortune’ crab hot dog was presented on a deck styled to resemble waves, while the spiced aubergine bao buns were considered for decoration with miniature flags.
Playful Handhelds
The evening moved into a selection of substantial handheld dishes, including the ‘Wave of Fortune’ crab hot dog with pickled apple, white crab, lemon crème fraîche and sea herbs in a brioche bun, alongside ‘Travelling’ spiced aubergine bao buns with black garlic ketchup and coriander emulsion.
Golf Ball Desserts
The mini-golf theme continued right through to dessert.
Two desserts were designed to be moulded into golf ball shapes: a Margarita sphere made with coconut, almond praline, margarita gel and passion fruit, and a Lemon Meringue Pie Tart with burnt lemon gel, sponge and lemon curd.
The result was a menu that didn’t just accompany the mini-golf exhibition - it became part of it, transforming the theme into playful, memorable food from first canapé to final dessert.
